About the NAPLEX

The NAPLEX is taken by individuals seeking licensure as a pharmacist. This computerized "adaptive" multiple choice test consists of 185-items (35 pre-test items are included but do not count towards the final score). Performance on each question determines the following question. A correct response leads to a more challenging question while an incorrect response leads to an easier one. Many questions refer to specific patient profiles to assess knowledge of pharmacy as it is applied to patient information, while other questions are standard multiple choice items.

Subjects covered include:

  • Managing drug therapy
  • Safely preparing and dispensing medications
  • Providing drug information and promoting public health

The exam is 4 hours and 15 minutes long.
